Also the first two Heads of State Juan Mora Fernandez and Braulio Carrillo gave their support to the coffee cultivation as they saw this endeavor as coffee as product capable of generating an economic growth which would in turn benefit the Costarrican society and with a vision that coffee production would lead to the economic expansion of Costa Rica.
The commercial endeavor of coffee did not develop until 1832 when Mr. Jorge Stiepel, a German businessman residing in Costa Rica, for the first time exported coffee to Chile from there it was bought by European businessmen who in turn exported it to London with the name of Café Chileno de Valparaiso.
Along the years, it has been affirmed that Captain William Le Lacheur opened direct commercial contacts with London ports and in 1843 made the London - Puntarenas voyage in the ship The Monarch to transport a shipment of 5.505 (quintales) sacks of Costa Rican coffee. It was the first export of Costa Rican coffee and was established as a complete success of the commercial viability of coffee with England and that this would extend to commerce with France also by way of Mr. Hippolyte Tournon.
